Most people associate pimples with the face, but tiny white bumps can also appear on the lips or in the intimate area. While these bumps are often harmless, they can sometimes signal irritation, infection, or another underlying skin condition. Understanding the difference between common, harmless spots and symptoms that require medical attention is essential for proper treatment.
One of the most common explanations is Fordyce spots. These are enlarged oil glands that naturally occur on the lips, inside the cheeks, or around the genital area. They are not contagious, do not result from poor hygiene, and usually do not require treatment. Many adults have them without ever noticing.
Another possible cause is clogged pores or blocked sebaceous glands. Lip balms, heavy cosmetics, or oily skincare products may contribute to the development of tiny white bumps around the lips. In the intimate area, friction from tight clothing, shaving, or excessive sweating can also irritate the skin and produce similar-looking bumps.
