Back pain – causes, treatment and prevention

Regular movement is therefore an important part of maintaining back health.
4. Aging and Degenerative Changes

As people get older, normal changes can occur in the spine.

The discs between vertebrae may lose some of their flexibility and cushioning ability. Joints may also experience changes over time.

These changes are common and do not always cause pain. However, in some people, they can contribute to stiffness or discomfort.
5. Herniated or Bulging Disc

The discs between the vertebrae act partly as cushions. Sometimes the material inside a disc pushes through a weakened area of its outer layer.

If a disc affects a nearby nerve, it may cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that travels from the back into the buttock or leg.

This type of pain is sometimes associated with sciatica.
6. Injuries

Falls, sports injuries, car accidents, and other trauma can cause back pain.

A minor injury may result in temporary muscle soreness, while more serious trauma can cause fractures or damage to other structures.
