Fire in Crans-Montana: FC Metz in shock, a footballer of the club seriously burned

“Deeply affected by this news, the directors, players, coaches and employees of the club are in shock and unite their thoughts to address them to Tahirys, in these hours when he is fighting suffering. The club also wishes to give its full support to his family, and is working, in collaboration with the medical authorities, to allow Tahirys to be repatriated to the Mercy hospital, near his home,” they said in a statement published on their website. Tahirys Dos Santos had to be evacuated urgently by air to Germany.
Who is Tahirys Dos Santos, the 19-year-old footballer who was badly burned?
Originally from Mont-Saint-Martin, about twenty kilometers from Metz, Tahirys Dos Santos played as a left-back and began his professional career in March 2025, as a trainee for FC Metz. As Le Républicain Lorrain recalls, he had played ten games with the reserve team of the Lorraine club. On December 20, Stéphane Le Mignan, the coach of FC Metz, had called him to join the squad of the first team for the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France, where the club easily won 3-0 against Biesheim.
Today, the fight has changed terrain. Treated in a specialized burns unit in Germany, Tahirys Dos Santos was not placed on artificial respiratory assistance, a sign of preserved lung capacity. When he woke up, his first words, “Where are my friends?”, testified to a poignant lucidity about the events that had happened.
