Jeffries has repeatedly argued that Democrats can regain control of the House in November. Reuters reported that he has also promised a broader Democratic redistricting effort if his party wins the House.
The Associated Press has likewise described Jeffries’ effort to win the Speaker’s gavel as a central part of the Democratic campaign to regain the House majority.
Yes—but only through the normal political process, not because the Supreme Court can simply appoint him.
If Democrats win enough seats in the House in the 2026 midterm elections, Democratic representatives could select Jeffries as their nominee for Speaker. The full House would then vote on the Speaker.
That means the outcome depends on elections, House membership, and the votes of representatives.
A Supreme Court decision does not itself make Jeffries Speaker.
