“Sign them!” my husband sneered, one arm wrapped around my sister’s waist as she rubbed her stomach and smiled at me like she’d already won.

“And you helped him pressure me into signing.”

She flinched.

“I thought he was securing his future.”

“You thought he was taking mine.”

Margaret began crying.

Once, that might have moved me.

Now I simply waited.

“Please,” she whispered. “Daniel may lose everything.”

“He stole millions.”
