For a child born into a family so closely associated with music, that detail seemed fitting.
But it was Aurelius’ name that generated perhaps the most curiosity.
Sean and Charlotte have not publicly explained why they chose it.
Its origins, however, are well documented.
Aurelius Is a Name With Ancient Roots
Aurelius comes from ancient Rome.
It originated as a Roman family name and is commonly linked to the Latin word aureus, meaning “golden” or “gilded.”
The name has appeared throughout history.
Several early Christian saints bore it.
But by far its most famous historical bearer was Marcus Aurelius.
Marcus Aurelius was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 AD.
He is also remembered as a philosopher, particularly through the writings collected as Meditations.
Those writings later became some of the best-known surviving works associated with Stoic philosophy.
That gives the baby’s name a history stretching back almost 2,000 years.
But there is no evidence that Sean and Charlotte chose the name specifically because of the emperor.
They have not publicly explained their inspiration.
The history therefore provides context, not an answer.
And the family’s announcement contained another meaningful milestone.
