Inside the Marriage of ‘The Newlywed Game’ Star Bob Eubanks and His Wife, 29 Years His Junior

That decision eventually brought him into contact with artists whose names would become part of music history.

The Rolling Stones were among the acts he promoted during the early years of their American touring.

His concert-promotion work would also become associated with performers including Bob Dylan, Elton John, Dolly Parton, Barry Manilow, The Supremes and Merle Haggard.

But none of those stories became quite as legendary as what happened in 1964.

A British band was creating extraordinary excitement in the United States.

Their name was The Beatles.

And Eubanks wanted them at the Hollywood Bowl.

There was one serious problem.

Money.

He Put $25,000 on the Line for The Beatles

Bringing The Beatles to Los Angeles was not simply a matter of making a phone call.

The financial commitment was enormous for the time.

Eubanks and business partner Mickey Brown had a property together.

To finance the Hollywood Bowl concert, Eubanks has recalled borrowing $25,000 against the house.

It was a major risk.

The Beatles’ fee alone was substantial, and Eubanks needed both the venue and the band to make the arrangement work.

But the risk paid off.

Tickets for the August 23, 1964 Hollywood Bowl concert disappeared rapidly.

The Beatles performed before thousands of screaming fans at the height of Beatlemania.

Eubanks would be involved again when the group returned to the Hollywood Bowl for performances in 1965.

Years before television made him famous, he had already helped create one of Los Angeles music history’s most memorable concert moments.
