The Inspection That Changed Everything
On the morning of the discovery, a small team of engineers and city inspectors arrived to conduct a preliminary structural evaluation.
Their goal was simple: determine whether any part of the building could be safely demolished or if it required further stabilization.
The team moved through the building methodically.
Room by room.
Floor by floor.
Most of what they found was expected—debris, decay, and silence.
Until they reached a narrow corridor on the second level.
That’s when things changed.
The Hidden Alcove
At the end of the corridor was a section of wall that appeared slightly out of place.
Unlike the surrounding structure, this portion had been subtly reinforced. Not professionally—but deliberately.
A loose panel.
A partially concealed opening.
Something that didn’t belong.
When one of the inspectors pushed against it, the panel shifted.
Behind it was a small alcove.
Barely large enough to be considered a room.
And inside, someone was living there.
