And then you discover that the insect was actually a harmless outdoor bug.
That’s a lot of unnecessary stress.
The opposite situation can also happen.
Someone assumes the insect was harmless, but it turns out to be a louse and the infestation continues.
The best approach lies between panic and dismissal.
Identify first. Act second.
Take a Photograph
If the insect is still available, photograph it.
Use natural or bright lighting.
Take several images from different angles.
If possible, include something nearby that gives a sense of scale.
Don’t crush the insect before you’ve had a chance to identify it.
